Hawkeye #1 (1983) launches Clint Barton’s first-ever solo limited series, written and pencilled by Mark Gruenwald with inks by Brett Breeding. This four-issue mini explores Hawkeye stepping out from the Avengers to handle street-level threats on his own terms. The issue sets the tone for the grounded, determined, sometimes reckless version of Clint that later inspired both the MCU and modern comic interpretations. This issue is key for early Mockingbird involvement, featuring Bobbi Morse prominently as the mysterious partner in Hawkeye’s new mission. Although Mockingbird predates this series, her appearance here is important because it cements the Hawkeye–Mockingbird partnership that defined much of their lore throughout the 1980s. Because this is the first issue of a Marvel Limited Series, collectors consider it the most desirable of the run, with early direct newsstand copies gaining increased interest. Condition based on photos: Cover retains strong colour with light tanning along the edges typical of early-80s newsprint. Spine shows several small, non-colour-breaking ticks but remains tight with no staple rust visible. Corners show some blunting and mild rounding, and there are scattered small surface specks on the upper cover. Lower right corner has a light crease with no major breaks. Overall, the comic presents in the VG/FN to FN range, good for display and ideal for collectors filling out the classic Hawkeye limited series.
