Kenji Shimizu

Born in Fukuoka in 1940. Started Judo at the age of 13 (currently Kodokan 4th dan). After graduating from Meiji University, he entered the Aikikai Honbu Dojo as an uchi-deshi in 1963 and learned Aikido from the late Morihei Ueshiba. In 1969, he became independent as the Kiyomizu Dojo, and after changing its name to Tendo, he established the Tendo-ryu Aikido Honbu Dojo in Sangen-jaya, Tokyo in 1982. Currently, he is working to spread and develop O Sensei Ueshiba's Aikido not only in Japan but also in European countries, including Germany. He received the Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2002.
