Ceramic figurine of a child sitting on the ground looking down a large telescope by Hummel, known as 'Star Gazer'. Most of the ornament is matte glazed. The brand name of M.I. Hummel is stamped into the stand on one side underneath the telescope legs. The underside has a blue stamp of a V with a full bee in it along with 'R' in brackets. From research, it is a TMK-2 design that was used from 1950 to 1959 and is a rare to find a full bee which is the most sort after..There is also a black stamp of 'Germany' showing country of origin, and '132' nearby that is the figurine design number. Another small number is stamped nearby that I think is '89'. In acceptable vintage/retro condition. Instead of hiding in a glass cabinet, the ornament was displayed and enjoyed in a busy area and has unfortunately had an accident many years ago. There are some chips and some areas that have been glued back together. Please see the photos for a better idea of the damage. Would be a fun restoration project, or can be enjoyed as is. Size of figure approx. 12cm x 10.5cm x 6cm Weight approx. 154g A beautiful mid-century ornament to display on a shelf or bookcase. Would make a lovely gift for a Hummel collector, an astronomy enthusiast, or someone interested in ceramic repairs.
