Sterling Silver Antique Army Insignia Pendant

I don't have much info on this. My grandfather fought and died at D-Day and I found this among my father's jewelry when he passed as well

I'm assuming it's WWII era, but I'm not certain. If anyone out there has info on it, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The bottom on the back reads STERLING. I added close-ups of that.

If you'd like me to add a ring to hang this on a chain I have several from other older jewelry, I just didn't put it in the photos because they aren't genuine to this piece. I'll include one for free by request though.
