RARE 1992 Alexander Baklanov Russian Table Medal - Herzen University Peli

Item Overview:
A high-relief, large bronze table medal (approx. 2") struck in 1992 at the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Mint. This is a commemorative piece for the 195th Anniversary of the Herzen State Pedagogical University.
​The Artist:
Designed and signed by Alexander Baklanov (A. БАКЛАНОВ), the legendary Chief Artist of the Russian Mint. Look for the signature which visually appears as "A. 6AKAAHOB" on the medal. Baklanov is world-renowned for his wildlife and nature designs on Russian currency.
​Obverse (Front):
Features a stunning 3D high-relief depiction of a Pelican feeding her three young (The "Pelican in her Piety"). In Russian culture, the Pelican is the official symbol of teaching and self-sacrifice.
