NEW PICS as of May 13th, 2025. (New lighting system).
A nice gently worn, barely clipped English silver penny minted during the reign of Edward I (1272-1307). This was the largest denomination of coin in circulation at the time.
The paperwork with it accredits it to the Canterbury mint, and the legend in the 2nd photo reads "CIVI TAS CAN TOR" (City of Canterbury). A pellet at the beginning of the legend designates this as a class 4d which was minted at Canterbury between 1282-1289.
So this penny is potentially 750 years old.
Aside from the poor strike, the wear is very light. Comparing it to slabs online it could grade between XF & AU.
